Smoking is not a stain. The wood takes in smoke, which works deep into the grain and darkens it without flattening the structure. The result cannot be reproduced: no paint gives you two identical boards.
Smoked oak looks completely different from natural oak — and it has exactly the same hardness, the same geometry and holds floors and walls just as well.
